Original Chicago Revival Stars Bebe Neuwirth and Ann Reinking Razzle-Dazzle 'Em at Record-Breaking Performance

Walter Bobbie's Tony-winning revival of Chicago played its milestone 7,486th performance on November 23 at the Ambassador Theatre. With that show, the musical becomes the second-longest running production in Broadway history, overtaking Cats, which closed in 2000 having performed 7,485 shows.

This production of John Kander and Fred Ebb's 1975 musical began as a New York City Center Encores! mounting, then opened at Broadway's Richard Rodgers Theatre on November 14, 1996, starring Bebe Neuwirth as Velma Kelly, Ann Reinking as Roxie Hart, James Naughton as Billy Flynn, and Joel Grey as Amos Hart. Those four actors re-created parts of their iconic performances, with Naughton singing "We Both Reached for the Gun," Grey performing part of "Mr. Cellophane," and Neuwirth and Reinking closing the second act with "Nowadays."

Chicago currently stars Bianca Marroquin as Roxie Hart, Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly, Christopher Fitzgerald as Billy Flynn, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart, Carmen Ruby Floyd as Matron "Mama" Morton, and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine. The evening also attracted many other Chicago alums including John O'Hurley, Marilu Henner, Amy Spanger, and Christopher Sieber, among others.
