The new musical will hit the Big Apple after its run in Washington, D.C. concludes.
Dear Evan Hansen, the acclaimed new musical by Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, and Steven Levenson, will make its New York City debut in spring 2016. The production, directed by Michael Greif, will play an off-Broadway run at Second Stage Theatre.
With a score by Tony nominees Pasek and Paul, and a book by Levinson, Dear Evan Hansen is described as follows: "Evan Hansen is about to get everything he’s ever wanted: the girl of his dreams, the perfect family he’s always longed for, and a chance to finally fit in. He just has to hope that his chance to connect isn’t blown by the secrets he has to conceal." The world-premiere production of the original musical is currently running through August 23 at Washington D.C.'s Arena Stage.
Full casting, dates, and creative-team information will be revealed in the coming months. The Arena Stage production features a cast made up of Ben Platt, Laura Dreyfuss, Jennifer Laura Thompson, Michael Park, Mike Faist, Alexis Molnar, and Will Roland.
The Second Stage run is presented in association with Stacey Mindich Productions. Pasek and Paul return to Second Stage where their musical Dogfight had its world premiere in 2012. Greif returns to Second Stage after directing the off-Broadway premiere of Next to Normal before it moved to Arena Stage and then Broadway.
