Smith will perform the stories and music of her legendary career for three nights only in an Audible production.
Audible Inc., the world's largest seller and producer of downloadable audiobooks and other spoken-word entertainment, has announced its upcoming slate of productions coming to the Minetta Lane Theatre, Audible's creative home for live performances in New York.
Patti Smith: Words and Music at the Minetta Lane, featuring Patti Smith performing original spoken-word stories from her life, interwoven with the music of her beloved catalog, will run September 22-24. Joining Smith will be her son and daughter, Jackson and Jesse Paris Smith, as well as musician Tony Shanahan.
Running October 5-November 4 will be Aasif Mandvi's Sakina's Restaurant, a one-man show that follows an Indian immigrant who comes to New York to work at a restaurant and live the American dream. Written and performed by Mandvi, who brings his acclaimed performance back to the New York stage 20 years after its Obie-winning debut, the show is directed by Kimberly Senior, alongside a creative team that includes Wilson Chin (scenic design), Jen Caprio (costume design), Mary Louise Geiger (lighting design), and Jill B.C. Du Boff (sound design).
Next will be Chisa Hutchinson's Proof of Love, the inaugural production from Audible's Emerging Playwright program, with casting, creative team, and exact dates to be announced in the coming months.
The New York premiere of playwright Isaac Gomez's one-woman play The Way She Spoke will follow, running in early 2019. The show demonstrates the power of speaking truth, even as it considers the implications of doing so. Casting, creative team, and exact dates will be announced in the coming months.
Additional events at the Minetta Lane Theatre will be announced soon. Audible will also announce live performances in other cities in the near future.
