Signature Theatre Company celebrated the opening of Athol Fugard’s My Children! My Africa! on Thursday, May 24. Ruben Santiago-Hudson directs the production, which runs through June 10 in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center.

Allison Gallerani, James A. Williams, and Stephen Tyrone Williams star in the play, about an idealistic teacher in 1980s South Africa who seeks to provide a future for a gifted student by forming a debate team with a young woman from the local white school.

Guests at the performance included Anthony Chisholm, Catherine Curtin, Jim Dale, Colman Domingo, Katori Hall, Rosemary Harris, Corey Hawkins, Charlie Hudson III, David Henry Hwang, Peter Francis James, David Margulies, Patricia McGregor, Matthew Rauch, and Lois Smith.

The creative team features Neil Patel (scenic design), Karen Perry (costume design), Marcus Doshi (lighting design), and Robert Kaplowitz (sound design), as well as Bobby McFerrin, who provided original music.
