Arena Stage’s world premiere of A Time to Kill, based on the novel by John Grisham and written by Rupert Holmes, opened on Sunday, May 22. The production is directed by Ethan McSweeny, and presented by special arrangement with Daryl Roth.
Grisham was in attendance at the opening, with guests also including actress Nancy Anderson, who is the girlfriend of director McSweeny.
The play depicts a Mississippi town’s upheaval when Carl Lee Hailey takes the law into his own hands following an unspeakable crime committed against his daughter.
The cast stars Sebastian Arcelus as lawyer Jake Brigance and Dion Graham as Carl Lee Hailey, along with Rosie Benton, Erin Davie, Brennan Brown, Jeffrey M. Bender, Trena Bolden Fields, Jonathan Lincoln Fried, Deborah Hazlett, Joe Isenberg, Chike Johnson, Michael Marcan, Hugh Nees, Evan Thompson, and John C. Vennema.
