On Monday, November 29, stage and screen veterans Patricia Clarkson and Stanley Tucci hosted the 20th Anniversary Gotham Independent Awards at Cipriani Wall Street. Presenters included Julianne Moore, Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, Barbara Kopple, Anthony Mackie, Leighton Meester, Rosie Perez, Sam Rockwell, John Turturro, and Michelle Williams.
Winter’s Bone received awards for Best Feature and Best Ensemble Performance; The Oath, directed by Laura Poitras, received the award for Best Documentary; Kevin Asch won the Breakthrough Director award for his work on Holy Rollers; Ronald Bronstein won the Breakthrough Actor award for his work in Daddy Longlegs; Littlerock, directed by Mike Ott, received the award for Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You; and Davis Guggenheim’s Waiting For ‘Superman’ received the Festival Genius Audience Award.
In addition, Robert Duvall, Hilary Swank, Darren Aronofsky and Focus Features CEO James Schamus each received a career tribute. Attendees also included Tony Goldwyn, Mila Kunis, Leighton Meester, Julianne Moore, John Ortiz, Sarah Paulson, Amanda Peet, Natalie Portman, and Ally Sheedy.
