New York City
The show features music by ”A Christmas Story” composers Pasek and Paul.
Ben Platt, best known for his role as Benji Applebaum in the hit film Pitch Perfect and for his Broadway turn in The Book of Mormon, will star in the world-premiere musical Dear Evan Hansen at Washington, D.C.'s Arena Stage. Performances will run from July 10-August 23 in the Kreeger Theater.
Directed by Tony nominee Michael Greif, the production features a score by Tony-nominated composing duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dogfight, A Christmas Story) and a book by Outer Critics Circle Award-winning playwright Steven Levenson (Masters of Sex).
Dear Evan Hansen is described as follows: "A letter, a lie, a life he never dreamed he could have. Evan Hansen is about to find out what it really means to belong."
"I couldn't be more excited to be a part of this very special piece," said Platt in a statement. "Benj, Justin, Steven, and Michael have created a bold, moving and completely original modern musical. It’s an honor and a dream come true to lead this cast, and a gift to be portraying Evan Hansen, such a beautifully complicated and exceedingly human character. I can’t wait for the world to see it."
The production will feature choreography by Danny Mefford and musical direction by Alex Lacamoire.
