Lopez rejoins the Tony-winning musical in the role of Berthe.
Tony Award winner Priscilla Lopez rejoins the Broadway cast of Pippin tonight, taking over for Lucie Arnaz in the role of Berthe. Lopez first played the role this past summer as part of a limited engagement.
Lopez's history with Pippin dates back to 1974, when she joined the cast of the original production as Fastrada. She earned her first Tony nomination in 1976 for her performance as Diana in the original production of A Chorus Line and won the award in 1980 for her role in A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine. She most recently appeared on Broadway in 2008 in In the Heights.
The current cast of Pippin is led by Josh Kaufman as Pippin, Carly Hughes as Leading Player, John Dossett as Charles, Tony Award nominee Charlotte d'Amboise as Fastrada, and Rachel Bay Jones as Catherine. The musical ends its run at the Music Box Theatre on January 4.
Directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus, the revival of Stephen Schwartz and Roger O. Hirson's classic coming-of-age musical features the death-defying tricks of a contemporary circus with choreography by Chet Walker in the style of Bob Fosse, and features circus creations by Gypsy Snider of the circus troupe Les 7 doigts de la main.
