Jackie Sibblies Drury’s play We Are Proud to Present a Presentation About the Herero of Namibia, Formerly Known as South West Africa, From the German Sudwestafrika, Between the Years 1884-1915 will make its New York debut at Soho Rep from November 7 to December 2, under the direction of Eric Ting.
Described as “humorous and harrowing,” the work follows a troupe of American actors as they attempt to reconstruct the little-known first genocide of the 20th Century and deal with the questions of appropriation and authenticity. It had its world premiere at Chicago’s Victory Gardens Theater earlier this year.
Quincy Tyler Bernstine, Lauren Blumenfeld, Phillip James Brannon, Grantham Coleman, Jimmy Davis, and Erin Gann will be featured in the company.
The creative team includes Mimi Lien (environmental scenic design), Toni-Leslie James (costumes), Lenore Doxsee (lighting), Chris Giarmo (sound), Jeff Larson (projections), and J. David Brimmer (fights).
