Michael Wilson directs the musical at the Ahmanson Theatre.
Production photos from the Ahmanson Theatre run of the musical Grey Gardens, starring Tony Award winner Betty Buckley (Cats) and Drama Desk Award winner Rachel York (Disaster!), have been released. Directed by Michael Wilson, the production runs through August 14.
Based on the 1975 documentary film of the same name by Albert and David Maysles, Grey Gardens tells the story of Big Edie (Buckley) and Little Edie Beale (York), a mother and daughter who ended up living as recluses in a run-down Long Island mansion. The musical features a book by Doug Wright and a score by Michael Korie and Scott Frankel.
Joining Buckley and York are Bryan Batt (Mad Men), Josh Young (Amazing Grace), Peyton Ella, Sarah Hunt, Simon Jones, Katie Silverman, Davon Williams, Olivia Curry, Rogelio Douglas Jr., Steven Good, Melina Kalomas, Michelle London, and Rebecca Spencer. Buckley, York, Hunt, and Jones appeared in the original mounting of this production, which took place in 2015 at the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor.
The production features scenic design by Jeff Cowie, costumes by Ilona Somogyi, lighting by Howell Binkley, sound by Jon Weston, projections by Jason H. Thompson, wig design by Paul Huntley, choreography by Hope Clarke, and musical direction by Kevin Stites.
