Tony Award nominee Ramin Karimloo (Les Misérables) will take on the role of Gleb in the upcoming Broadway production of the new musical Anastasia. The show will open at the Broadhurst Theatre on April 24, 2017, after a run at Hartford Stage earlier this year. Previews begin March 23.

Karimloo took part in a 2015 workshop of the show, which reunites the Tony-winning team behind the Broadway musical Ragtime, including book writer Terrence McNally and songwriters Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Manoel Felciano played the role of Gleb during the Hartford Stage production.

As previously announced, Christy Altomare, Derek Klena, John Bolton, and Caroline O'Connor will headline the Broadway run in the roles of Anya, Dmitry, Vlad Popov, and Countess Lily Malevsky-Malevitch, respectively. Additional casting will be announced at a later date. They all appeared in the Hartford Stage mounting.

With direction by Tony winner Darko Tresnjak (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder), the creative team also includes Peggy Hickey (choreography), Alexander Dodge (set design), Linda Cho (costume design), Donald Holder (lighting design), Peter Hylenski (sound design), Aaron Rhyne (projection design), Charles LaPointe (hair and wig design), Thomas Murray (music supervision and direction), and Doug Besterman (orchestrations).

Ahrens and Flaherty penned the tunes for the 1997 animated film on which the stage musical is based. They have expanded their score, which contains the songs "Once Upon a December" and "Journey to the Past," for the theatrical production. Altomare and Klena previously starred together in MCC Theater's 2012 revival of the musical Carrie.
