Full casting has been announced for Casa Valentina, the new drama by Harvey Fierstein that will premiere this spring on Broadway at Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
Joining the previously announced John Cullum and Patrick Page will be Drama Desk Award winner Reed Birney (Picnic), Tony Award winner Gabriel Ebert (Matilda The Musical), Lisa Emery (Lonely, I'm Not), Tony nominee Tom McGowan (Wicked), Larry Pine (The Designated Mourner), Nick Westrate (Loot), and Academy Award nominee Mare Winningham (Picnic).
Directed by Joe Mantello, Casa Valentina boasts a creative team made up of Scott Pask (scenic design), Rita Ryack (costume design), Justin Townsend (lighting design), Fitz Patton (original music and sound design), Jason Hayes (hair and makeup design), and Thomas Schall (fight direction).
Inspired by true events, Casa Valentina tells the story of a Catskill Mountains bungalow colony where a group of heterosexual family men spend their weekends dressing and acting as women. When the opportunity arises for the organization to become official, the men must decide whether public recognition will help or hinder their lives.
The production begins previews April 1, with opening night set for April 23.
