New York City
The drama comes to Roundabout Theatre Company under the direction of Joe Mantello.
Full casting has been announced for the New York premiere of Stephen Karam's The Humans, a production of Roundabout Theatre Company at the Laura Pels Theatre. Directed by Tony winner Joe Mantello, the drama will begin performances September 30 and open October 25, with the run scheduled to conclude on December 27.
Leading the company is Tony nominee Reed Birney (I'm Gonna Pray for You So Hard) as Erik, who has broken with tradition and brought his Pennsylvania family to celebrate Thanksgiving at his daughter's apartment in lower Manhattan. As darkness falls, family tensions reach a peak and the heart and horrors of their family are exposed.
Joining Birney in the company are (in alphabetical order) Cassie Beck (By the Water), Jayne Houdyshell (Fish in the Dark), Greg Keller (Of Good Stock), Sarah Steele (Slowgirl), and Joyce Van Patten (The Great God Pan). The creative team is David Zinn (sets), Sarah Laux (costumes), Justin Townsend (lighting), and Fitz Patton (sound).
This is Karam's third Roundabout production following Speech & Debate (2007) and Sons of the Prophet (2011), in which Humans cast member Steele starred. The Humans premiered at Chicago's American Theater Company in 2014.
