The Chicago production finds a replacement days before the first preview.
Last week, television and film actress Robin Weigert (The Sessions, Sons of Anarchy) exited the Goodman Theatre's production of Rapture, Blisture, Burn because of scheduling conflicts. Today, the theater announced that Chicago actress Jennifer Coombs will take over for Weigert in the leading role of Catherine Croll. Coombs joins the cast just days before the first preview on Saturday, January 17.
Directed by Kimberly Senior, Coombs joins a cast that features Mark L. Montgomery (Don Harper), Cassidy Slaughter-Mason (Avery Willard), Mary Ann Thebus (Alice Croll), and Karen Janes Woditsch (Gwen Harper).
Written by Gina Gionfriddo, Rapture, Blister, Burn was a finalist for the 2013 Pulitzer Prize in Drama and had a twice-extended run off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons. The play follows two friends — Catherine and Gwen — who, 20 years after choosing separate paths in life, begin to envy the other's achievements and pose the question, What do women really want?
