New York City
Director Patrick Marber brings Stoppard’s Tony-winning play back to New York City.
Roundabout Theatre Company's Broadway revival of Tom Stoppard's Travesties opens tonight at the American Airlines Theatre, following a few weeks of preview performances that began on March 29. The production, directed by Patrick Marber, transfers to New York from London's West End where it earned five Olivier Award nominations.
The cast of Travesties features Tom Hollander as Henry Carr, Peter McDonald as James Joyce, Seth Numrich as Tristan Tzara, Scarlett Strallen as Gwendolen, Sara Topham as Cecily, Opal Alladin as Nadya, Dan Butler as Lenin, and Patrick Kerr as Bennett.
The story follows Henry Carr (Hollander), an elderly man who begins to recall his adventures in Zürich during World War I, during which time he interacted with James Joyce as he was writing Ulysses, Dadaist Tristan Tzara, and Lenin on the eve of the Russian Revolution. The play was first produced on Broadway in 1975, earning the Tony Award for Best Play.
The creative team includes Tim Hatley (set and costume design), Neil Austin (lighting design), Adam Cork (sound design and original music), and Polly Bennett (movement).
Travesties will play a limited engagement through June 17.
