Sag Harbor, New York’s Bay Street Theatre has named Scott Schwartz as its newest artistic director. Schwartz will begin implementing his new vision for the theater during its upcoming 2014 season.
A graduate of Harvard University, Schwartz has enjoyed an extensive career on and off-Broadway and has toured his work throughout the United States, Great Britain, and Asia. His directing credits include Golda’s Balcony, the longest-running one-woman play in history, starring Tovah Feldshuh; the hit off-Broadway musical Bat Boy; Jonathan Larson’s tick, tick…Boom! at the Jane Street Theatre; and the currently running Murder for Two at Second Stage Uptown. Schwartz’s work has also been seen at a number of major regional theaters including ACT, Alliance Theatre, Berkshire Theatre Festival, Dallas Theatre Center, Denver Center Theatre Company, Goodspeed Opera House, La Jolla Playhouse, The Old Globe, Paper Mill Playhouse, Philadelphia Theatre Company, and Westport Country Playhouse, among others. He is also currently directing a production of the new musical Secondhand Lions, featuring a book by Rupert Holmes and a score by Michael Weiner and Alan Zachary, opening at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre on September 26.
