James Lapine directs the musical, which he cowrote with William Finn.
Production images have been released from the New York City Center Encores! Off-Center production of William Finn and James Lapine's A New Brain, starring Jonathan Groff. The production will run from June 24-27 with direction by James Lapine and choreography by Josh Prince.
In addition to Groff (Hamilton), A New Brain's cast features Jenni Barber (Wicked), Quentin Earl Darrington (Ragtime), Bradley Dean (Doctor Zhivago), Dan Fogler (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), Ana Gasteyer (Wicked), Josh Lamon (Finding Neverland), Aaron Lazar (The Last Ship), Alyse Alan Louis (Mamma Mia!), and Rema Webb (Violet).
Inspired by William Finn's personal experiences, A New Brain is a medical tragedy seen through the iris of a Looney Tunes short. After struggling composer Gordon Michael Schwinn (Groff) collapses face first into a plate of spaghetti, he is diagnosed with a brain tumor and is forced to come to terms with his creative ambitions and the people in his life.
A New Brain is the opening production of New York City Center's Encores! Off-Center series, the third season of which will also feature Little Shop of Horrors, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Ellen Greene, and Taran Killam, and Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party, starring Sutton Foster.
