Aziza Barnes’s new play is directed by Robert O’Hara at MCC Theater.
MCC Theater has released photos of its new production of BLKS, a new play by Aziza Barnes, directed by Robert O'Hara. Currently in performances at the Newman Mills Theater at the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space, the production is set to run through May 26, with opening night set for May 9. Check out some of the photos below.
In BLKS, Barnes introduces us to Octavia, Imani, and June, three twentysomethings in New York City hunting for intimacy and purpose in a city that doesn't seem to care. When they need each other the most, the women rally to "resurrect their fly" in a day full of humorous and painful attempts to be heard through the noise that surrounds them.
Heading the company are Paige Gilbert (Octavia), Alfie Fuller (Imani), and Antoinette Crowe-Legacy (June), alongside Marié Botha (That Bitch on the Couch), Chris Myers (Justin), and Coral Peña (Ry). The production will have scenic design by Clint Ramos, costume design by Dede Ayite, lighting design by Alex Jainchill, and sound design by Palmer Hefferan.
BLKS was developed at the Ojai Playwrights Conference and was first presented at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company.
