Hughes joins the cast of the long-running musical on February 2.
Carly Hughes is getting ready to join the Broadway production of Chicago at the Ambassador Theatre, and the show has released the first photos of her in character as Velma Kelly. Hughes joins the production on February 2, playing opposite Sugarland lead singer Jennifer Nettles as Roxie Hart. Their run concludes on March 29.
Hughes recently played the Leading Player in Pippin and appeared in the ensemble of Beautiful — The Carole King Musical, as well as The Book of Mormon, Ghost, Ragtime, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas. In the role of Velma Kelly, Hughes takes over for longtime Chicago star Amra-Faye Wright, who plays her final performance Sunday, February 1.
The Fred Ebb, John Kander, and Bob Fosse musical is directed by Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Ann Reinking (in the style of Fosse). This revival at the Ambassador Theatre recently became the second-longest-running show in Broadway history, and it is currently the longest-running American musical.
Both Chicago and Pippin are produced by Barry and Fran Weissler.
