The new musical will conclude the 45th Anniversary Season.
The York Theatre Company has released the first photos of the cast of its New York premiere of Cagney, a new musical featuring a book by Peter Colley and music and lyrics by Robert Creighton and Christopher McGovern. The score of original numbers is augmented by George M. Cohan songs. Performances will begin May 19 in advance of a May 28 opening and will run through June 21.
Cagney tells the story of legendary stage and screen star James Cagney, following the actor from his humble beginnings in New York City's Lower East Side through his rise as a vaudeville song-and-dance man to his superstardom in Hollywood.
Directed by Bill Castellino with choreography by Joshua Bergasse and music direction by Matt Perri, the production will star Creighton in the title role. Jeremy Benton, Danette Holden, Bruce Sabath, Josh Walden, and Ellen Zolezzi complete the six-person cast.
In addition to Creighton, the cast features Jeremy Benton, Danette Holden, Bruce Sabath, Josh Walden, and Ellen Zolezzi.
