The Jewel Box Award will be presented at the company’s third annual unGala.
The Workshop Theater Company will honor Sheldon Harnick with the Jewel Box Award at its third annual unGala on October 17 at the Lindeman.
Harnick will be celebrated with "The Sheldon Show," featuring performances by Broadway's Robert Cuccioli (Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark), Tovah Feldshuh (Pippin), Sally Mayes (Steel Magnolias), and Michael McCormick (Chaplin) of some of the songwriter's most memorable tunes. Longtime New York theater critic Peter Filichia will interview Harnick at the event, and live music will be provided by the Greg Bufford Jazz Quartet.
Sheldon Harnick — the 2016 recipient of the Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement, the Drama League Award for Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre, and a Special Lifetime Achievement Award from the Outer Critics Circle — is best known as the Tony-winning lyricist of Fiddler on the Roof, now running at the Broadway Theatre. He was also recently represented on Broadway in the Roundabout revival of She Loves Me at Studio 54. In addition, Harnick penned the lyrics to Fiorello! (Tony Award), The Apple Tree, and The Rothschilds.
The Workshop Theater is devoted to the rigorous development and production of new American plays and musicals.
