Brian Stokes Mitchell, Billy Porter, and more helped celebrate the legendary theatermaker.
The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center celebrated acclaimed director George C. Wolfe at a gala ceremony on May 9 in New York City.
As previously announced, Wolfe received the 16th Monte Cristo Award. The event included a gala dinner at the Edison Ballroom, followed by a special program hosted by O’Neill executive director Preston Whiteway.
Wolfe is represented on Broadway this season with Shuffle Along, for which he wrote the book and which he directs. He has won Tony Awards for his direction of Angels in America: Millennium Approaches and for Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk. He has also received Tony Award nominations for his direction of Caroline, or Change, Jelly's Last Jam, Angels in America: Perestroika, The Normal Heart, and Lucky Guy, as well as his books for The Wild Party and Jelly's Last Jam.
