Signature Theatre has announced that its annual gala celebration will take place April 7 and will honor New York City's 108th mayor, Michael R. Bloomberg, as well as the actor, playwright, and director Ruben Santiago-Hudson.
Both honorees will be recognized for the lasting effect they have had on the history, artistry, and physical home of Signature Theatre. Santiago-Hudson has brought many works to life on Signature stages, including How I Learned What I Learned as an actor and The Piano Lesson as a director. Bloomberg's guidance and generosity have aided Signature Theatre in creating its home at The Pershing Square Signature Center.
This celebratory evening will feature cocktails, dinner, and remarks by some of the honorees' friends and collaborators. The event is cochaired by Signature trustees Leslie E. Bains and Edward Norton.
Founded in 1991 by James Houghton, Signature Theatre makes an extended commitment to a playwright's body of work, and during this journey, the writer is engaged in every aspect of the creative process.
