Bess Wohl’s play returns to the off-Broadway stage at the Pershing Square Signature Center.
Complete casting has been announced for the return off-Broadway engagement of Bess Wohl’s Small Mouth Sounds, coming to the Pershing Square Signature Center this July. Performances begin July 3 in advance of a July 13 opening and will run through September 25.
As previously announced, the production will feature original cast members Marcia DeBonis (Homeland), Jojo Gonzalez (The Romance of Magno Rubio), Brad Heberlee (These Paper Bullets), and Babak Tafti (The North Pool). Rounding out the cast will be Zoë Winters (Red Speedo), Max Baker (The Village Bike), Carmen Zilles (Scenes From a Marriage), James Seol (Around the World in 80 Days), and Quincy Tyler Bernstine (Ruined), who replaces the formerly announced Sakina Jaffrey. Jaffrey departed the production due to scheduling conflicts.
Small Mouth Sounds returns to New York following its extended run at Ars Nova in 2015. Directed by Rachel Chavkin, the play is described as follows: “In the overwhelming quiet of the woods, six runaways from city life embark on a silent retreat. As these strangers confront internal demons both profound and absurd, their vows of silence collide with the achingly human need to connect.”
The original design team, returning for the summer production, includes Laura Jellinek (scenic design), Tilly Grimes (costume design), Mike Inwood (lighting design), Stowe Nelson (sound design), Andrew Schneider (projection design), and Noah Mease (prop design).
