Playwright Michael Laurence costars in the world premiere production.
Rattlestick Playwrights Theater has announced that Annette O'Toole will join Michael Laurence in the cast of Hamlet in Bed, written by Laurence and directed by Lisa Peterson. Performances will begin August 28 in advance of a September 10 opening and will run through October 25.
The story follows Michael, a neurotic actor obsessed with finding his real mother and playing the famous gloomy Dane. The play is described as "a twisty and darkly comic story about mothers and sons — about what it means to live a life in the theatre, both a generation ago, and now — and about families — the ones we're born into, and the ones we find along the way."
O'Toole's stage credits include Third (Two River Theater), Southern Comfort (Barrington Stage Company), Heresy (Flea Theater), Kindness (Playwrights Horizons), The Seagull (CSC), The Quality of Life (Arena Stage), Magnolia (Goodman Theatre), Yankee Wives, and Sun Bearing Down (Old Globe Theatre). She's best known for playing Martha Kent on the long-running television series Smallville.
The creative team for Hamlet in Bed includes set design by Rachel Hauck, costume design by Jessica Pabst, lighting design by Scott Zielinski, sound design by Bart Fasbender, projection design by Dave Tennent, and fight direction by J. David Brimmer.
