The original cast of the short-lived television series got together to sing the score of the fake Marilyn Monroe musical.
The stars of the ill-fated television drama series Smash reunited at the Minskoff Theatre for a one-night-only concert performance of Bombshell, the musical within the show, on June 8. The evening benefited the Actors Fund.
Bombshell features music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Joshua Bergasse and Scott Wittman direct with choreography by Bergasse and music direction by Shaiman. It looks at the rise and fall of Norma Jean Baker, who would go on to become the legendary movie star Marilyn Monroe.
The evening featured original Smash cast members Christian Borle, Will Chase, Megan Hilty, Katharine McPhee, Debra Messing, Jaime Cepero, Brian d'Arcy James, Ann Harada, Jeremy Jordon, Donna McKechnie, Leslie Odom Jr., and Wesley Taylor, as well as Ripley Sobo.
The ensemble was made up of Yesenia Ayala, Ioana Alfonso, Emily Bindiger, Colin Bradbury, Benjamin Chavez, Dennis Collins, Neal Coomer, Alexa De Barr, Josh Franklin, Karla Garcia, Mary Gatchell, Alex Gibson, Tyrone Jackson, Reed Kelly, Jenny LaRoche, Marty Lawson, Carolyn Leonhart, Karen Lloyd, Michael McArthur, Paul McGill, Chase Madigan, Kevin Osborne, Nicole Prothro, Lillie Ricciardi, Eugene Ruffolo, Michael Ruocco, Sarah Tolar, Jessica Walker, Katie Webber, Tatiana Wechsler, and Sam Zack.
The Bomshell concert comes a year after the other fake musical from Smash, Hit List, was given a New York City concert at 54 Below.
