Spider-Man Star Joins Dirty Dancing as New Johnny Castle

The second year of the North American tour launches tonight in Chicago.

Christopher Tierney (Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark) has been announced to join the North American tour of Dirty Dancing — The Classic Story On Stage as the production's newest Johnny Castle, the role famously played by Patrick Swayze in the 1987 film.

The show opens the second year of its tour this evening at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago, where it will offer performances through August 30. Tierney stars opposite Gillian Abbott as Frances "Baby" Houseman in a company that features Doug Carpenter (Billy Kostecki, Singer), Jerome Harmann-Hardeman (Tito Suarez), Ryan Jesse (Neil Kellerman), Gary Lynch (Max Kellerman), Scott McCreary (Robbie Gould), Herman Petras (Mr. Schumacher), Alex Scolari (Lisa Houseman), Margot White (Marjorie Houseman), Mark Elliot Wilson (Dr. Jake Houseman), and Jenny Winton (Penny Johnson). The ensemble also includes John Antony, Rachel Marie Bell, Rachel Boone, Josh Drake, Rashaan James II, Joshua Keith, Alexandra Matteo, Katelyn Prominski, Amy Quanbeck, Adam Roberts, Jennlee Shallow, Paul Victor, and Devan Watring.

The production's book is written by Eleanor Bergstein with direction by James Powell and choreography by Michele Lynch, based on the original choreography by Kate Champion. The creative team also includes Stephen Brimson Lewis (set design), Tim Mitchell (lighting design), Jennifer Irwin (costume design), Bobby Aitken (sound design), Jon Driscoll (video and projection design), Bernie Ardia (hair design), Conrad Helfrich (music supervisor and orchestrations), and Alan Plado (music director). The score includes popular tunes from the original film, including "Hungry Eyes," "Hey Baby," "Do You Love Me?" and "(I’ve Had) the Time of My Life."
