Stage Door Players Presents the World Premiere of Let Nothing You Dismay

Let Nothing You Dismay starts its run tonight at Stage Door Players.

The fast-paced farce features eight actors playing 22 characters, starting with Kevin and Allie, who are waiting for the phone call that will make them parents. Although it’s Christmas, they’ve asked their families to wait until they bring the baby home before calling or visiting, and, naturally, no one listens. Kevin’s father arrives first with his much-younger wife and their extended clan. Next there is Kevin’s mother, her veterinarian, her upstairs neighbor, and her favorite author. They are quickly followed by Allie’s family, starting with her ultra-competitive sister, then her Bubbie and Bubbie’s gentleman friend. Through all the holiday chaos there is the constant reminder that we are all more alike than we realize.

Shannon Eubanks directs the new play by Topher Payne, which features Brian Brendle, Amanda Cucher, Mark Gray, Shelly McCook, Doyle Reynolds, Gina Rickicki, Emily Sams, and Ben Silver.

"This is my third world premiere with the remarkable Shannon Eubanks at the helm — we've developed a great shorthand," says Payne. "Which was particularly handy because I was still completing this script while I was getting shows ready in New York and Massachusetts, so Shannon had to become my proxy in Atlanta for production meetings and development. But I can just trust her completely, which is such a gift."

The creative team includes Chuck Welcome (set design), Jim Alford (costume design), John David Williams (lighting design), Rial Ellsworth (sound design), George Deavours (wig design), Kathy Ellsworth (props design), and Hayley Brotherton (stage manager).

Performances will run through December 20.
