The Grammy winner and Tony nominee performed tunes from his Broadway musical.
Sixteen-time Grammy Award winner Sting celebrated his 2015 Best Score Tony nomination with a pair of concerts featuring songs from his musical The Last Ship at the Heath at The McKittrick Hotel. Proceeds from the Tuesday, May 19 shows will benefit the Actors Fund.
Sting was joined by his Last Ship costar Jimmy Nail and the show's band members Rob Mathes (musical director, piano), Joe Bonadio (percussion), Chris Layer (wind instruments), Mick McAuley (accordion), Paul Woodiel (fiddle), and Pete Donovan (bass), with Jo Lawry on vocals.
Inspired by Sting's youth, the musical tells the story of Gideon Fletcher, a young man from the English seafaring town of Wallsend, who leaves his life behind to travel the world — only to return a decade later to find out that what he deserted is more than he ever could have imagined.
