Sugarland Singer Jennifer Nettles to Make Broadway Debut in Chicago

Sugarland lead singer Jennifer Nettles will make her Broadway debut February 2-March 29 as Roxie Hart in Broadway's Chicago at the Ambassador Theatre.

"Broadway has always been a special, magical place, with a wonderful tradition of singers and actors," Nettles said in a statement. "I feel honored and proud to be part of this great tradition. Taking on such an iconic role as Roxie in Chicago is a dream come true."

Nettles is the recipient of five ASCAP awards for her songwriting abilities. In 2008 she individually received a Grammy Award, ACM Award, and CMA Award for penning the emotionally charged, platinum-selling hit "Stay." With the country group Sugarland, she has achieved worldwide sales of over 22 million (albums and singles) to date, including eight No. 1 singles.

Chicago also stars Amy Spanger as Roxie Hart, Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly, John O'Hurley as Billy Flynn, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Matron "Mama" Morton, and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine. The Fred Ebb, John Kander, and Bob Fosse musical is directed by Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Ann Reinking (in the style of Fosse). This revival at the Ambassador Theatre recently became the second-longest-running show in Broadway history, and it is currently the longest-running American musical.
