New York City
There have never been more Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals playing Broadway at one time.
Stage and screen star Glenn Close plays one of the greatest characters of Hollywood lore, Norma Desmond, in the Broadway revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard, which opens tonight at Broadway's Palace Theatre.
Based on the classic Billy Wilder film, Sunset Boulevard is about silent film star Norma Desmond. Forgotten in the era of talkies, she slips further into delusion in her cavernous Los Angeles mansion.
Close won her third Tony Award for her portrayal of Desmond in the original 1994 Broadway run. In this revival, she is joined by Siobhan Dillon, Fred Johanson, and Michael Xavier, all making their Broadway debuts. The new production also features a 40-piece orchestra playing Andrew Lloyd Webber's Tony Award-winning score. Lonny Price directs.
It's official: Lloyd Webber now has four shows running simultaneously on Broadway.
