”Happy Talk” will be presented by the New Group.
Susan Sarandon and Marin Ireland will star in Happy Talk, a new play by Jesse Eisenberg at the New Group. Directed by Scott Elliott, Happy Talk will begin previews April 30, with a run scheduled through June 2, at the Pershing Square Siganture Center.
Sarandon will play Lorraine, a suburban woman trying to save her dying mother, miserable husband, and estranged daughter while also playing Bloody Mary in her JCC production of South Pacific. When her mother's home aide, Serbian immigrant Ljuba (Ireland), asks for help finding a husband, Lorraine takes on her most challenging role to date: matchmaker. Additional casting will be announced.
The production will include scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Clint Ramos, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, and sound design by Rob Milburn and Michael Bodeen.
Happy Talk was originally announced under the title Yea, Sister!
