Taye Diggs to Make Directorial Debut With Readings of Keenan Scott II Play

Stage and screen actor Taye Diggs (Rent, Hedwig and the Angry Inch) will make his directorial debut with private industry readings of Thoughts of a Colored Man on a Day When the Sun Set Too Early, a new play by Keenan Scott II. The readings will take place on November 16 and 17 at Ripley-Grier Studios.

Keenan Scott II's play features music by Madison McFerrin and choreography by Jenny Parsinen. Thoughts of a Colored Man, according to a press release, "takes a raw and honest look at eight men as they struggle to find their identity beyond the limitations, stereotypes, and obstacles that the world attempts to place on them based on the color of their skin. In an effort to better understand the human experience, they openly discuss love, race, education, family, and history. This incredibly relevant new play fuses music, dance, and modern storytelling together for a deeply moving, entertaining and thought-provoking experience."

The cast will include Blake Russell, Chad Goodridge, Reynaldo Piniella, James T. Lane, Carvens Lissaint, Forrest McClendon, Benton Greene, and Charles E. Wallace. The readings will also feature dancers Hollie Wright and Dionne Figgins, vocalist Madison McFerrin, and percussionist William Catanzaro. The creative team also includes James Calleri (casting director) and Foresight Theatrical (general manager).
