A cast of Broadway veterans will perform the pop-rock musical in St. Louis this summer.
The Muny in St. Louis has announced the stars of its summer production of Chess, running July 5-11. The pop-rock musical, written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus of the pop group ABBA in collaboration with Tim Rice, will be led by director and choreographer Josh Rhodes, with associate director and choreographer Lee Wilkins.
Chess tells a story centered around the world chess championship, mirroring the 1980s Cold War tensions of USA vs. Soviet Russia. The Muny production will star Jessica Vosk (Fiddler on the Roof) as Florence Vassy, Tony nominee Jarrod Spector (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) as Frederick Trumper, John Riddle (The Phantom of the Opera) as Anatoly Sergievsky, Rodney Hicks (Come From Away) as Walter de Courcey, Tally Sessions (Company) as Alexander Molokov, Phillip Johnson Richardson (Hamilton in Chicago) as Arbiter, and Tony nominee Taylor Louderman (Mean Girls) as Svetlana Sergievskaya.
Chess will feature music direction by Jason DeBord with Michael Horsley serving as the associate music director. The musical is presented in partnership with the Saint Louis Chess Club and World Chess Hall of Fame.
