”A Pretty Filthy Evening” previews the company’s latest musical before it begins performances.
The Civilians will present a sneak preview of their latest musical, Pretty Filthy, at 54 Below on December 2. Titled A Pretty Filthy Evening, the act will feature new songs from the show by Michael Friedman (The Fortress of Solitude, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson).
Pretty Filthy, which runs from January 31-March 1, 2015, at the Abrons Arts Center, explores life in the porn industry. Bess Wohl pens the book, which is inspired by firsthand interviews and research with professionals from that business. Steve Cosson directs that production.
Featured performers in the concert are Bryce Pinkham (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder), Grammy winner Lady Rizo, Steve Rosen (Peter and the Starcatcher), Alyse Alan Louis (The Rocky Horror Show), Marrick Smith (Fun Home), Shakina Nayfack (One Woman Show), Jeanine Serralles (The Jammer), and Emily Young (Cymbeline).
Along with Friedman's music, the evening will feature uncensored excerpts from the interviews conducted with subjects ranging from living with porn stars and eating sushi with porn stars.
