The Tony-winning Broadway revival of The Color Purple celebrated its first anniversary on Saturday, December 10, at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
The Color Purple, which opened on December 10, 2015, will end its run January 8, 2017. The musical is adapted from the novel of the same name by Alice Walker. It features a book by Marsha Norman, with music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray. Tony winners Cynthia Erivo as Celie and Jennifer Holliday as Shug Avery, as well as Carrie Compere as Sofia, Jennie Harney as Nettie, Nathaniel Stampley as Mister, and Kyle Scatliffe as Harpo.
