The beloved 1985 film The Goonies may one day have a new life as an immersive off-Broadway theater experience, according to a Yahoo! Movies interview with director Richard Donner.

Donner revealed that there are plans to put the show onstage (or in a warehouse), saying, "We’re going to do an off-Broadway, do you know what immersion theatre is? Where there’s no seats, the venue is you go into a warehouse and there’s something happening in that warehouse and that’s the play you’ve come to see, only you become part of it and you travel through with actors." He went on to explain that audiences can expect to wait at least a year before such a production would actually exist.

The Goonies follows a band of preteen misfits who set out to find a pirate's ancient treasure in order to save their home from foreclosure. The film starred Sean Astin as Michael "Mikey" Walsh, Corey Feldman as Clark "Mouth" Devereaux, Ke Huy Quan as Richard "Data" Wang, Josh Brolin as Brandon "Brand" Walsh, Jeff Cohen as Lawrence "Chunk" Cohen, Kerri Green as Andrea "Andy" Carmichael, and Martha Plimpton as Stephanie "Stef" Steinbrenner.
