The New York Philharmonic has announced that its upcoming staged production of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street will be telecast nationally on Live From Lincoln Center, hosted by Audra McDonald. The airdate has yet to be announced.

Sweeney Todd will run from March 5-8 at Avery Fisher Hall with direction by Lonny Price. Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel will lead the cast in the role of Sweeney, alongside Academy Award-winning actress Emma Thompson as Mrs. Lovett.

The musical thriller tells the story of a barber who seeks vengeance on what he sees as a merciless world by murdering his customers and, with the help of his landlady, baking their bodies into meat pies.

The cast will also feature Jeff Blumenkrantz (Murder for Two') as The Beadle, Tony Award winner Christian Borle (Peter and the Starcatcher) as Pirelli, Kyle Brenn (Leap of Faith) as Tobias Ragg, Jay Armstrong Johnson (Hands on a Hardbody) as Anthony Hope, Erin Mackey (Chaplin) as Johanna, and three-time Olivier Award winner Philip Quast as Judge Turpin.

Live From Lincoln Center regularly presents the Philharmonic's symphonic concerts, and in recent seasons it has broadcast many of the Philharmonic's theatrical productions, including Rodgers & Hammerstein's Carousel in 2013 and Lerner & Loewe's Camelot in 2008.
