The Public Theater has announced a collaboration between Miami’s GableStage and the Royal Shakespeare Company, in which all three theaters will present Tarell Alvin McCraney’s new version of Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra.

The production will premiere at the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Stratford-upon-Avon home in November 2013, before coming to GableStage in January 2014, followed by The Public Theater production in late January 2014. No casting has been announced. McCraney will direct the show.

The new version was created by stripping down the text, reordering the scene structure, and relocating the play to the late 1700s on the eve of the Haitian Revolution against the French.

McCraney’s many plays include The Brother/Sister Plays, Choir Boy, and Wig Out. His newest work, Head of Passes, will receive its world premiere in April at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theater.
