The new Stephen Schwartz-Lindsey Ferrentino musical will star Kristin Chenoweth and F. Murray Abraham.
The Queen of Versailles will come to Broadway’s St. James Theatre beginning October 8, producers have announced. Opening night is set for November 10. The new musical had its world premiere engagement at Boston’s Emerson Colonial Theatre in 2024.
Leading the Broadway run are Tony and Emmy Award winner Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked) as beauty queen, socialite, and TV personality Jacqueline “Jackie” Siegel and Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus) as David Siegel. Complete casting will be announced at a later date.
Based on Lauren Greenfield’s award-winning 2012 documentary film of the same name and the life stories of Jackie and David Siegel, the book for The Queen of Versailles is by Lindsey Ferrentino (Amy and the Orphans), with a score by Oscar winner Stephen Schwartz, direction by Tony Award winner Michael Arden (Parade), and choreography by Lauren Yalango-Grant and Christopher Cree Grant (Parade).
The show is about Jackie Siegel, who sees herself as the embodiment of the American dream. As the wife of David “The Timeshare King” Siegel and mother of their eight children, she embarks on building the largest private home in America in Orlando, Florida, a $100 million house inspired by the Palace of Versailles. But with the recession of 2008 looming, Jackie and David’s dreams begin to crumble, along with their lavish lifestyle.
The production has music supervision by Mary-Mitchell Campbell, scenic and video design by Dane Laffrey, costume design Christian Cowan, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Peter Hylenski, hair and wigs by Cookie Jordan, and orchestrations by John Clancy.
