Theatre by the Sea Presents My Fair Lady

My Fair Lady begins its run tonight at Theatre by the Sea. Based on George Bernard Shaw's classic play Pygmalion, the musical presents Professor Henry Higgins, a crotchety, middle-aged bachelor and phoneticist. When he meets Eliza Doolittle, a cockney flower girl, he concocts an experiment. Can he help transform Eliza into a "lady"? The score features hits such as "I Could Have Danced All Night," "Get Me to the Church on Time," "Wouldn’t It Be Loverly," "The Rain in Spain," and "I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face."

With the book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe, the musical is directed by Charles Repole and choreographed by Michael Lichtenfeld. The cast is led by Charles Shaughnessy (The Nanny) as Henry Higgins and Kerry Conte as Eliza Doolittle, but also includes Zachary Berger, Maria Day Hyde, Bill Deitrich, Tom Gleadow, and Ellen Peterson.

"I have been talking to Charles about doing My Fair Lady at Theatre by the Sea ever since working together on the 2011 production at North Shore Music Theatre," said TBTS owner and producer Bill Hanney. "I am so glad that his schedule has finally allowed for this to happen."

The creative team includes Milton Granger (musical director), Michael P. Kramer (set design), Kathleen Edwards (costume design), Bailey Costa (lighting design), and Geoffrey Boronda (stage manager).

Performances will run through July 18.
