Originally set to run July 14-16 and July 21-23, This Is Reading, a site-specific multimedia installation inspired by Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Sweat, has now added a third weekend to its run, July 28-30, due to popular demand.
The installation is described as "an ambitious site-specific multimedia installation blending live performance, film, and visual media that will occupy the historic Franklin Street Railroad Station in downtown Reading, reanimating the long-vacant building. Using as its foundation the hardships, challenges, and triumphs of people living in and around Reading, Pennsylvania, This Is Reading will weave their individual stories into one cohesive and compelling tale of the city.''
The cast features Russell G. Jones, Michael Puzzo, Vanessa Aspillaga, and a host of local dancers and actors.
The creative team includes Nottage, director Kate Whoriskey (who directed Sweat on Broadway), filmmaker Tony Gerber, choreographer Rennie Harris, set designer Deb O, DJ Eli Evnen, projection designer Jeff Sugg, lighting designer Amith Chandrashaker, sound designer Nick Kourtides, and producers Jane Saks, Blake Ashman-Kipervaser, Santo D. Marabella, and Allison Bressi.
