The in-demand Jonathan Larson musical has also upgraded to a larger venue.
Ciara Renée (Big Fish, Pippin) will join the cast of the Keen Company revival of Jonathan Larson's Tick, Tick…BOOM!, opening off-Broadway this fall. The production, previously slated for a run at the Clurman Theatre, will now play at Theatre Row's larger Acorn Theatre to accommodate the demand for tickets. Performances will begin October 4 in advance of an October 20 opening and will run through November 20.
Renée takes on the role of Susan opposite the previously announced Nick Blaemire, who will star as Jonathan in Larson's autobiographical musical. The show — which debuted off-Broadway in 2001 after his death and the enormous success of his musical Rent — tells the story of an aspiring composer questioning his life choices on the eve of his 30th birthday. Joey Chancey serves as musical director with Christine O'Grady choreographing and David Auburn as script consultant.
"We're so pleased our announcement of Tick, Tick…BOOM! has been met with such enthusiasm," said Keen Artistic Director Jonathan Silverstein, who will helm the production. "Ten years ago we moved from being an itinerant company off-off-Broadway to our home at the Clurman in the heart of the theater district. To now move to a theater double its size is a tremendous step for us. We are so excited to be able to share this very Keen musical with even more people in The Acorn."
Additional casting and design team will be announced shortly.
