Tony Award-Winning The Humans Begins Performances at Walnut Street Theatre

The Humans begins performances tonight at Walnut Street Theatre ahead of an opening night set for January 24.

Bernardo Havard directs Stephen Karam's play, described as follows: "After a sleepless night, Erik Blake brings his family from Pennsylvania to celebrate Thanksgiving at his daughter's new apartment in lower Manhattan. As darkness falls outside the crumbling pre-war duplex, mysterious things start to go bump in the night and family tensions reach a boiling point. American middle class hopes, dreams, and fears are first coaxed — then shoved — into the light in this humorous, hopeful and heart-tugging new play."

Featured in the cast are Greg Wood (Erik Blake), Jennie Eisenhower (Aimee Blake), Alex Keiper (Brigid Blake), Mary Martello (Deirdre Blake), Sharon Alexander (Fiona "MoMo" Blake), and Ibrahim Miari (Richard Saad).

The production includes scenic design by Roman Tatarowicz, lighting design by Shon Causer, costume design by Mary Folino, and sound design by Christopher Colucci.

The Humans opened on Broadway on February 18, 2016, at the Helen Hayes Theatre. It received 6 Tony nominations in 2016 and won four, including Best Play, and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.

Performances continue through March 4.
