Tony Award nominee Kerry Butler (Gore Vidal’s The Best Man) and Kelly AuCoin (Happy Now?) will lead the cast of the upcoming Playwrights Horizons and Primary Stages co-production of Tanya Barfield’s new play, The Call. Two-time Obie Award winner Leigh Silverman (Chinglish) helms the work, which begins previews on March 22, with an opening set for April 14. The limited engagement, at Playwrights Horizons’ Peter Jay Sharp Theater, will run through May 19.

The politically-charged, world premiere drama follows Annie (Butler) and Peter (AuCoin) as they confront the uncertainty that stems from their identity as white Americans who are planning to adopt a child from Africa. Joining Butler and AuCoin are Obie Award winner Eisa Davis (Passing Strange), Theatre World Award winner Crystal A. Dickinson (Clybourne Park), and Obie Award winner Russell G. Jones (Ruined).

Barfield’s other plays include Of Equal Measure, Dent, The Quick, and Blue Door, which was directed by Silverman at Playwrights Horizons in 2006. Silverman received Obie Awards for her productions of David Greenspan’s Go Back to Where You Are and Lisa Kron’s In the Wake. She has also directed Well, Yellow Face, Coraline, From Up Here, among many others.

The Call‘s creative team includes Rachel Hauck (scenic design), Emily Rebholz (costume design), Matt Frey (lighting design), and Jill BC DuBoff (sound design).
