Broadway Under the Stars, a one-night-only concert event to be held at L.A.'s John Anson Ford Theatre on August 16, has been announced to star Tony winner Jennifer Holliday. David Galligan will direct the event, with musical direction by Gerald Sternbach.
Broadway Under the Stars will feature songs from shows like Cabaret, Jersey Boys, Pippin, The Phantom of the Opera as well as new favorites from Rocky, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, and more.
In addition to Holliday, the cast will feature Erich Bergen (Jersey Boys film), Rogelio Douglas Jr. (In the Heights), Danny Gurwin (Little Women), and Tony nominee Chad Kimball (Memphis). Jennifer Holliday won a 1982 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Effie Melody White in Dreamgirls.
A portion of the proceeds from Broadway Under the Stars will benefit The Actors Fund, a national human services organization. The Actors Fund's programs include social services and emergency financial assistance as well as health care and insurance counseling.
