Tony and Emmy winner Tyne Daly will star in the York Theatre Company's upcoming production of Jerry Herman's musical Dear World, running February 25-March 5. The show will be presented at York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's.
With a book by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, and a score by Herman, the work is inspired by Jean Giraudoux's The Madwoman of Chailiot (as adapted by Maurice Valency). It is described as follows: "When a group of businessmen scheme to drill for oil in Paris, there is only one force in the world that can stop them: Countess Aurelia, the Madwoman of Chaillot. With the help of idealism, love, and poetry — not to mention two other madwomen, a local sewerman, and a pair of young lovers — the Countess fights to save Paris and the world from greed."
Michael Montel directs, with music direction by Christopher McGovern. David Thompson provides a new version of the script. Daly first played the role of Countess Aurelia in a 2016 concert reading in California.
