For the fifth consecutive year, The Fourth Unity — a company dedicated to the development of gay theater and gay playwrights — will offer a festival of celebration. Unity Fest 2002, comprising 15 plays that represent a wide range of production and performance styles, will unfold at the Bank Street Theatre beginning Tuesday, December 3.
The highlights of this year’s festival include a revival of Edwin Sanchez’s Trafficking in Broken Hearts, a powerful drama that The Fourth Unity premiered in 1997; Rich Orloff’s Come Light the Menora, a comedy about two Jewish sisters’ musings on the non-Jews they know and must deal with; Padding the Wagon, a play by Gary Garrison about a man whose lover dies in the World Trade Center attack; and two works by David Pumo, Perhaps (a lesbian love story) and The Seed (about a gay father raising his straight son and a mother raising her transgendered child).
