Lincoln Center Theater’s acclaimed production of Douglas Carter Beane’s The Nance might be ending its Broadway run on August 11, but it’s not completely disappearing. The drama, starring two-time Tony Award winner Nathan Lane, will be taped for a future broadcast on the PBS series Live From Lincoln Center, and you have a chance to get tickets — for free!
Directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien, the production began previews on March 21 and officially opened on April 15. Lane received a 2013 Tony nomination for his performance as Chauncey Miles, a headlining burlesque performer known for his onstage portrayal of effeminate “nance” characters. Chauncey must navigate a messy personal life offstage as a not-so-secret gay man in a world where it’s dangerous to be homosexual. The cast also features Tony Award winner Cady Huffman, Tony Award nominee Lewis J. Stadlen, Andréa Burns, Jenni Barber, and Jonny Orsini.
The production features sets by John Lee Beatty, costumes by Ann Roth, lighting by Japhy Weideman, sound by Leon Rothenberg, choreography by Joey Pizzi, and original music and arrangements by Glen Kelly.
