The Donna Summer musical, starring LaChanze, Ariana DeBose, and Storm Lever, opens on April 23 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
After a run at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego last year, Summer: The Donna Summer Musical is now in previews at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Broadway ahead of an official opening on April 23. Earlier today, the stars of the show — LaChanze, Ariana DeBose, and Storm Lever, all playing the legendary singer at different ages — as well as one of the show's producers, Tommy Mottola, appeared on NBC's Today Show, with the lead trio performing two of Donna Summer's hits, "MacArthur Park" and "She Works Hard for the Money". Check out the live performances below.
Summer features a book by Colman Domingo, Robert Cary, and Des McAnuff, with songs by Donna Summer, Giorgio Moroder, Paul Jabara, and others. McAnuff directs, with choreography by Sergio Trujillo, music supervision by Ron Melrose, scenic design by Robert Brill, costumes by Paul Tazewell, lighting by Howell Binkley, sound by Gareth Owen, and projections by Sean Nieuwenhuis.
